Mission Ukraine 1 - 12th – 14th March 2022

Gdansk (PL) – Lviv (UA) – Szklarska Poreba (PL) – Gdansk (PL) - 2200 km (1367 miles)

After dropping off the supplies in one of the hospitals in Lviv, our ambulance was approached by a lady who was extremely upset and crying as for past 3 days she had been desperately trying to get help to take her son out of their flat and transport him over to Poland. The lady’s son (27 years old) is severely disabled and unable to walk. Every time there was a bomb alarm she couldn’t get him to the basement shelter and the only thing she could was to lay next to him in bed and cover themselves with duvets and blankets, hoping that that time the bomb will not drop on them. Our Paramedics didn’t hesitate for a second, they took the lady onto the ambulance and drove together to her flat.

By using a carry chair (which is a part of an equipment in every ambulance all over the world) they managed easily to evacuate the young gentleman from the flat to the ambulance. They also took the lady and their cat. The cat had to be transported in a parrot cage (which apparently he was not impressed with) as there were no cat transporters available. They also took a special electric wheelchair and some personal belongings and they started the journey back to Poland.

In Poland, they drove the family to a town called Szklarska Poreba when a special transport was waiting to take over. The cat got a new proper transporter and the whole family was safely taken to the new home. As per latest update, they are all in good health and spirit in Rome, Italy, living in a house adapted for the disabled people. Our ambulance drove back to northern Poland to rest and restock before the next, longer mission.
